More about the tour
Dalmatia’s hinterland is a place of rich cultural tradition and legend. Tight knit villages where family, hard work, dedication and a passion for food and wine are essential parts of life. In ways similar to the bucolic villages throughout Burgundy, small family estates scattered through the Dalmatian hinterland produce amazing and mysterious wines from indigenous varietals.
After leaving Split, we will drive to the Krolo family estate, just outside the town of Trilj. The Krolo’s have been in the construction business for decades, but their love for fine wine eventually steered them into wine making. All of their love (plus a generous portion of hard earned construction money) is now invested in a small vineyard and winery on the outskirts of Trilj.
During our visit we will meet this wine making family, taste excellent Zinfandel (Crljenak) as well as Cab-Merlot blends. Then we will take a stroll through the vineyard, get to know the traditional Croatian game of “balote” and if you are up for it, enjoy a back roads ride in an old army jeep over the tricky slopes of Strmendolac. Your dinner will be cooked by the winemaker’s wife, and perfectly paired to the flight of Krolo wines. Good conversation and company is a given, and you won’t fine a more genuine experience anywhere in your wine travels!.
